In recent years, there has been a rise in terrorism in Mozambique. Al Shabab, an ISIS affiliate, has launched several attacks in the province of Cabo Delgabo and has spread into the neighbouring province of Niassa. The humanitarian situation in Cabo Delgado has been deteriorating at an alarming rate since mid-2020 with attacks leaving many dead and displacing hundreds of thousands from this region.
With hundreds of new IDPs arriving daily, many are in need of psychosocial support and basic resources to survive. With the help of Anglican Aid, the Diocese of Zambezia has been able to help feed many displaced people since 2020.
The church has been providing messages of comfort to Muslim and Christian families in the Niassa Malica resettlement, and has made spiritual counselling available to them.
Please pray for the IDPs impacted by the terrorist attacks that they will know God’s love and comfort through the Diocese of Zambezia. Please also pray to soften the hearts of those committing injustice, that there may be an opportunity for them to hear the gospel and turn to Christ.
In the case that a fundraising appeal has received sufficient donations, any surplus funds will be used for a similar activity or an activity in the same country.
