Caring for Asylum Seekers & Refugees- St Philip’s Auburn

Auburn is one the most multi-ethnic communities in Sydney with a large number of new migrants.  Many of these migrants are ‘irregular maritime arrivals’ (asylum seekers) with very little ability or resources to access and prepare food.  Auburn has been declared a ‘Refugee Welcome Zone’ by the local council.  There are a large number of asylum seekers being housed in Auburn.  Auburn Anglican run a ministry dedicated to helping recently arrived refugees.

The program includes:

  • Meeting the need for food, and for food security, in the Auburn community.
  • Providing food, as well as education about accessing food, as well as provision of basic cooking appliances, where needed.
  • Relationship building.
