Cyclone-ravaged communities now exposed to cholera outbreak

This morning, BBC World News is reporting the first known death from cholera, with more than 500 cases right now across Mozambique - comparable to thebnumber of Mozambicans who were killed in the cyclone and flooding. A further 90,000 are thought to be sheltering in temporary sites. We do not yet have numbers for Zimbabwe or Malawi.

Anglican Aid is in touch with Mozambican Bishop Vicente Msosa, from the Diocese of Niassa. Although farther north than where the cyclone made landfall, the area has been badly affected by flooded rivers flowing downstream from neighbouring regions.

Thank you to the many believers who have responded to this desperate emergency already. Anglican Aid is still receiving donations and sending these to Christian partners in eastern Zimbabwe and northern Mozambique.
