Back to School Appeal

As kids head back to school, give the gift of education to kids in East Africa

Give Now

As kids head back to school in New South Wales this week, the school year is also beginning in Eastern and Southern Africa.

However, in this region, an estimated 46 million school-aged children won’t be heading back to school. And those who do attend school often struggle to learn due to overcrowded classrooms, untrained teachers, and limited school supplies. In fact, in sub-Saharan Africa, just 10% of 10-year-olds can read and understand a simple text.

Most parents in East Africa want their children to receive a quality education. But for many living in poverty, they simply cannot afford it.

But Anglican Aid’s partners in East Africa are providing quality, Christian education to more than 2000 children in need.

Your giving

You can give a quality, Christian education to kids in East Africa by making your tax-deductible gift today.

45% of students drop out of school before Grade 8. Anglican Aid’s partner, Hope & Faith School, is educating 500 vulnerable children and orphans in an impoverished compound in Lusaka, Zambia’s capital city. Each student also receives a daily meal.

IN TANZANIA

More than one third of girls are married before turning 18. Anglican Aid’s partner, Tarime Girls Secondary School, will enable girls to gain a Christian secondary education, bringing them better employment opportunities and options besides child marriage.

Children in remote areas must often walk hours to the nearest school, meaning many do not attend. Anglican Aid’s partner, St Thomas’ Primary School in Engaruka, is giving Maasai children access to an excellent Christian school in their own community.

IN KENYA

36% of people live on less than $1.90 USD per day, making school unaffordable for many. Anglican Aid’s partner, Elyon High School, is lifting children out of poverty by providing a quality education to vulnerable teenagers living in Nairobi’s urban slums.
