The Heart of Mercy School seeks to educate and care for vulnerable children who are at risk of dropping out of school, with a particular focus on children who have been orphaned or have one parent deceased.
Children are provided with school uniforms, exercise books, and other school materials to help them attend school. Teachers are trained in child-centred teaching techniques, to make the classroom a friendly place for young students.
The project also works with local Mothers’ Clubs to help build up the necessary community support and encouragement for children to access their right to education.
Anglican Aid is also working with the school to construct better infrastructure, as the school needs toilets, bathrooms, dormitories, extra classrooms, a computer lab, and solar power electricity.
