Anglican Aid is working closely with Christian partners in Lebanon to care for people affected by the massive explosion on 5 August, in Beirut. We are providing relief and aid funds through the Lebanese Society for Educational and Social Development (LSESD), who partner with local churches that are actively responding to the needs of the community.
CEO of Anglican Aid, Tim Swan, said he was anxious to provide assistance. “Our brothers and sisters in Lebanon were already battling a health and economic crisis due to the Coronavirus pandemic. This tragic explosion has compounded their suffering.
“We ask our supporters to pray for Beirut, and to show the love of Christ for them by giving to this appeal.”
Anglican Aid will provide Christian care for the community in Beirut through local churches on the ground.
The ABC reports that on Wednesday 5 August, a massive explosion tore through Beirut’s shipping district. The force of the blast was equivalent to a 3.5 magnitude earthquake.
It is now estimated that more than 150 people have died in the explosion, with many hundreds more injured, overwhelming local medical centres. A local hospital was among the public buildings badly damaged by the explosion. Hundreds of thousands are now displaced with some densely-populated residential districts totally destroyed.
