Douglas Village Household Sanitation 

Anglican Aid is partnering with the Diocese of Southern Malawi to improve household sanitation in Douglas Village.  

In Douglas Village, poor sanitation is caused by regular flooding and poorly built pit latrines. Flooding destroys the latrines and causes environmental contamination, increasing the risk of waterborne diseases. Households also then need to rebuild their sanitation facilities. This situation means poor health and dignity, particularly amongst women, children, the elderly and those living with a disability. 

However, with your support through Anglican Aid, the Diocese of Southern Malawi will provide physical materials and training to improve household sanitation.  

These include: 

  • physical toilet slabs  
  • bricks and cement 
  • sanitation training  
  • hygiene education.  

Participants will also contribute to construction and provide local materials.  

The project builds upon the previous Malawi Biosand Filter Water project, where 40 Biosand filters were installed in Douglas Village. The addition of improved sanitation facilities will make this filtering system more effective.  

The Douglas Village Household Sanitation project will improve the dignity, health, and quality of life for 40 households.
