DR Congo is one of the most challenging countries to live in. With rebel conflict, disease and economic instability, communities have a low capacity to provide effective education. Schools are without desks and chairs, libraries, water and electricity; teachers are underpaid. This means that children have poor literacy and numeracy skills, and teachers are ill-equipped to teach their students.  

But, with support from people like you, 9 schools have been either built or renovated, more than 90 teachers have been upskilled in teaching practices, and the Diocese of Kindu has been provided with administrative support, including computer training.  

Now, training for teachers is held every Thursday from 3pm to 5pm across 4 locations in Maniema. Each session includes both guided instruction on the new curriculum by the Department of Education and time for teachers to engage in personal research related to their subjects.  

This means that teachers are empowered to teach well and that their students have the skills to escape from poverty.
