KZN Ministry Apprenticeship (South Africa)

The KwaZulu-Natal Ministry Apprentices (KZNMA) project is overseen by The Bible Talks and is located in the province of KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa. This project seeks to train and test the next generation of predominately Zulu men and women for full-time Christian ministry.

It’s not easy for ministry apprentices to raise the funds to support their two-year apprenticeship. South Africa has an unemployment rate of more than 30% and 20% of the population live on $2.15 a day. Support through Anglican Aid means more young men and women are freed up to be trained in ministry.

Being equipped for a lifetime of Christian ministry

The KZNMA involves three focus areas:

Individual mentorship, with a special eye to character development
Training in Bible handling, ministry practices, teaching skills, and theology
Practical opportunities for relational and word-based ministry and other forms of service – usually in both the local church and university ministry contexts.

Dumisani was a KZNMA 2025 apprentice

One of the most important improvements I saw was my Word handling abilities (Bible handling). The importance of taking time to let the Word work in your heart before telling it to others. The value of not rushing sermon prep, the value of prayer while preparing, and the value of feedback from those ahead of you in the Christian faith in terms of maturity.

In turn, all of this has helped me serve in my local church with confidence. I teach the youth with clarity and serve the local church with diligence now.
