TEU’s School of Law, founded in 2022, seeks to provide quality training for lawyers with a strong ethical base. With just two other Schools of Law in the whole of South Sudan, the country desperately needs a generation of well-educated lawyers who will strengthen their nation. It is particularly important to train lawyers with strong Christian character who can withstand the pressures inherent in a country which is struggling with poverty, ethnic conflicts, violence and corruption – and who understand leadership as servanthood.
The School of Law operates alongside and together with the Bishop Gwynne School of Theology. The University’s Christian ethos is evident in its Christian staff, its community life, and its compulsory courses in the Bible, in Christian Ethics and Spirituality, and in Peacebuilding and Conflict Resolution.
There is currently no government funding for higher education in South Sudan. By giving to this project, you will be helping to provide much-needed classroom and library resources, and staff training and salaries for the School of Law.
- $3070 could provide screens for a Law School classroom
- $6100 could provide all the required books for the Law Library
- $15300 could provide computers for Law School students
“The law brings justice. Justice is one of the most important pillars of peace. In a country with a long history of conflicts and armed violence like South Sudan, the rule of law and justice have already been seriously weakened by the long years of conflicts. As a long-term program for peace-building, South Sudan needs well-trained lawyers, judges, prosecutors and human rights activists. What is unique in TEU is that it combines the study and practice of law with Christian values, which will definitely make a difference: in building peace through justice, graduates will be builders of the kingdom of the Prince of Peace.”
Dr Eeva John, Vice Chancellor, TEU
