The Anglican Church of Congo plays an important part in the community, with each diocese contributing widely to vital services. For example in the diocese of Nord Kivu, there are nine departments: evangelisation; education, medical services, Mothers’ Union, youth, development, Christian education, justice, peace and reconciliation, and communication.
Diocesan activities are usually located at a central area, and connect with a large number of rural parishes, often run by clergy and lay leaders that need further education and support.
DR Congo has suffered ongoing conflict and is one of the poorest countries in the world. Inadequate infrastructure, ill-equipped healthcare facilities, and lack of education, mean that the investment of Biblically trained community leaders is vital for the development and wellbeing of the community both materially and spiritually.
Church leaders mobilise the church to provide holistic care in the case of disaster and emergency. For example, in 2019/20 Anglican Aid has worked through these leaders to deliver assistance towards Covid-19 prevention education, flood relief, and IDP support.
Anglican Aid works with the Dioceses of Aru, Beni, Boga, Bukavu, Goma, Kamango, Kasai, Katanga, Kindu, Kinshasa / Brazzaville, Kisangani and Nord Kivu.
