Anglican Aid Conference: Common Knowledge

On 31 August, over 150 people gathered at Moore College in Newtown for this year’s Anglican Aid conference, Common Knowledge – Is education God’s answer to world poverty? Moore College Principal, Mark Thompson, opened the day, reminding us that education is not the gospel but that historically, education has mattered to Christians. It provides employment opportunities and social benefits but also the skills needed for people to read the Scriptures.

Laura Wolfenden reflected on the power of words and retired missionary Colin Reed told the story of the impact of Christian schools in east Africa over many years.

Our visiting partners Bishop Mwita Akiri from Tanzania and Miracle School Ministries founder Angela Michael from Pakistan both shared how Christian education brings transformation in their contexts.

Anglican Aid’s Cameron Jansen gave a snapshot in numbers of the state of education around the world and Zeeshan LaalDin told his own story of how Christian education has mattered and its broader impact in Pakistan.

One attender said, “It was an informative and inspiring day.” Another said a highlight was “being with our Anglican Aid family for a common cause in the Lord’s service.”

Thank you to Moore College for their kind hospitality in hosting us again this year.

Pray:

  • Pray that God will transform communities and strengthen his church through Anglican Aid education projects.
