Grace News – Autumn 2024
Grace News is Anglican Aid’s quarterly newsletter, through which we share encouragement and updates from our project partners.
When I visited Madagascar in 2022, it was a joy to see how much our brothers and sisters are treasuring the MegaVoice audio Bibles that Anglican Aid has been able to provide for them. In an oral culture, with patchy electricity supply and low literacy rates, the solar-powered MegaVoice Bibles are enabling people in Madagascar to hear God’s word in Malagasy, their heart language. Our Anglican Church partners have been asking for more of these devices!
Last year with your support, Anglican Aid was able to provide another 700 audio Bibles for six dioceses. I was enormously encouraged by a recent update from the Diocese of Toliara about how God’s word through MegaVoice is transforming lives in Madagascar, particularly in rural areas.
This man came to faith after listening to a MegaVoice audio Bible.
“MegaVoices are truly a treasure!”
This new church was planted in Toamasina, following the use of MegaVoice audio Bibles.
The devices have been entrusted to pastors and catechists who are using them to prepare sermons and for Sunday meetings, but they are also organising listening sessions for people in the villages, both believers and non-believers. In these oral rural communities, people are used to listening to the news and drama on radio and listening to the Bible this way feels very natural. For example, in Beantake parish, local people are coming to the church each day at noon to listen to God’s word and many people have been coming to faith.
About 15 churches have been planted in the Diocese of Toliara alone since the latest distribution of MegaVoices last year. In the Diocese of Toamasina, where eight new churches have been planted, the Bishop, Jean-Paul Solo said, “MegaVoices are truly a treasure!”.
We praise God for the faithfulness of our brothers and sisters in Madagascar who are eagerly sharing his word through MegaVoice Bibles and that the church is growing and being strengthened in Madagascar!
