Roof sheets for displaced people

Mr Adano’s family has been given roof sheets to rebuild their home.

Mr Adano’s family was one of around 37,000 families in Marsabit County who fled their homes when tribal violence erupted in northern Kenya in recent years. His house and property were destroyed in the conflict.

Supported by Australian Christians through Anglican Aid, the Diocese of Marsabit has been providing food and other essentials to displaced people.

Helping families go home

In December, the Diocese supplied roof sheets for Mr Adano and 49 other vulnerable households to help them return to their villages and re-establish their homes. The roof sheeting was distributed at a meeting of beneficiaries who came from warring communities, many of whom were Muslims.

Mr Adano was grateful for the help.

“What happened today is really amazing. The people who have never seen us, those who are from a distant country and profess different faith from ours, had compassion on us and have sent us this precious gift. I can now build a three-room house using this iron sheeting,” said Mr Adano.

At the distribution, Bishop Qampicha had the opportunity to share God’s word with people who wouldn’t normally hear it and encouraged the opposing groups to continue resolving their conflict and live in peace.

Pray:

  • Give thanks that roofing could be provided through donations to our Forced to Flee emergency appeal.
  • Pray for peace in Marsabit.
