Over $300K and climbing raised for Anglican Aid NSW Bushfire and Drought Appeals.

Churches and supporters of The Archbishop of Sydney’s Anglican Aid have raised more than $300K in relief funding for communities affected by drought and bushfire, with more donations being received daily.

Parishes in Nambucca Valley, Wauchope, Wollondilly, and the Armidale Diocese have already begun to receive funding to reach out to their neighbours. With your donations, Anglican Aid has responded to immediate needs such as replacing food stores spoiled as a result of power cuts.

You have also enabled Anglican Aid to fund a number of initiatives including a scholarship program to meet school costs in 2020, assisting with water cartage and enabling burnt land to be cleared and infrastructure like fencing replaced.

Anglican Aid has also supported a church in the Armidale Diocese to assist a Rural Fire Service volunteer whose own business was gutted while he was fighting fire in another location.

Alongside the sudden and shocking devastation of the bushfires, the slow and grinding drought continues to scar the land and its people.

Archdeacon Grahame Yager, coordinator of drought relief across Bathurst Diocese tells of regular dust storms over what would usually be the most productive land in the region, and shortages of potable water in places like Coonabarabran and Gilgandra.

Amidst the stress and grief, Yager says he gives thanks for the way the community is finding creative ways to care for each other.

“Throughout the Diocese we give thanks for practical aid and prayer support. In particular the support of Anglican Aid.”

The Rev Canon David Hanger, Rector of Northern Beaches Anglicans at Woolgoolga NSW and coordinator of relief for the Diocese of Grafton, implores Christians to pray. “In November we saw stark losses of homes and properties around Wauchope, Kempsey, Macksville/Nambucca Heads, Casino, Upper Clarence, and Mid Richmond due to the bushfires. Please pray for emergency service workers and volunteers defending lives and properties. Please pray for earth-soaking rain.”
