ZAMBIA: From student to teacher

Maureen grew up in a poor compound in Lusaka, Zambia’s capital city. Her parents both died when she was a young child, so she and her siblings were cared for by their grandmother. Growing up in poverty, a good education seemed out of reach.

However, thanks to the generosity of Anglican Aid supporters, Maureen was able to go to primary school at Hope & Faith School. The school then sponsored her to finish secondary school and go on to university, where she trained to be a teacher in Natural Sciences.

Maureen has since returned to Hope & Faith as a teacher. She loves being able to give back to the school that changed her life. With the salary she receives, she is also able to support her younger siblings.

“Hope & Faith is a blessing to me,” she said. “It has given me life. Because of Hope & Faith, I’m respected in society.”

Maureen’s experience at Hope & Faith has also strengthened her faith in God. “God is able, and he is the Father of all,” she said. “Yes, even if you don’t have parents, God always sends helpers to your life. You just have to trust in God, and all is well.”

Pray:

  • Praise God for how Hope & Faith School in Zambia is transforming the lives of vulnerable children
