Bananas and banana juice are generating an income for Francine’s family
“Before the implementation of this project, my husband and I were living in extreme poverty. We struggled to have food on the table for ourselves and our six children,” said Francine. After receiving training and tools through the Diocese of Gitega’s Food Security Project, Francine and her husband began growing bananas. Their first harvest yielded so much, they decided to make and sell banana juice, a popular local product. The extra income they’ve earned through this initiative has enabled them to pay for secondary education for the four of their children who had dropped out of school. “This project has been eye-opening and we expect to keep learning more as the project continues,” said Francine.
Anglican Aid’s partner the Diocese of Gitega started this project with 75 vulnerable people in Kabanga after undertaking a similar project in another village with excellent results. As well as improving people’s health and income, the local church is growing as people experience Jesus’ love through his people.
