Burundi: “God really cares”

Before joining the Gitega Food Security Project, Irene and her husband were struggling to feed their two children and were often only able to eat once a day. The family’s harvests were meagre, and her husband used to spend the small amount they earned on banana beer. When Irene joined the food security project, she learned more effective farming methods. She was also given improved seeds, tools, and a goat.
“This project changed everything as I shared what I learned with my husband and invited him to help me apply what we were being taught,” Irene said. “I remember the day I came home with a goat we were given to provide organic manure. He whispered, not directly to me, ‘I can start believing that God really cares for my family’.”

After implementing what they learned, the family’s harvest grew from 236 to 875 kilograms. As well as the material benefits, Irene says her husband is a transformed man. He is now a responsible and proud husband and father. As project participants gather for training, they also read the Bible and pray together and many are growing in their faith in Jesus.
“I have this conviction that as the project goes on, we will continue to learn and to grow. God bless the Church abundantly and everyone who has contributed for this project to happen.”
There are 74 other families participating in the Gitega Food Security Project in Kabanga where Irene lives.
Praise God that he is answering your prayers and using your gifts to change lives in Burundi.
