Help turn hunger to hope
- by Tim Swan

Right now, hunger is a daily reality for families in the world’s poorest nations.
In Burundi, for example, more than half of all children are chronically malnourished. But because of faithful supporters like you, families in the Gitega Food Security Project are seeing real, measurable change. Over three years, crop yields have increased by an average of 79.9%, so families can eat well, improve their health, earn income, and share the good things they have with others.
When you prayerfully give today, your tax-deductible gift will let God’s grace overflow to a world in need, helping feed hungry families in Burundi and beyond.
This is putting into practice Matthew 25, where Jesus tells of the final judgment. He says: “I was hungry and you gave me something to eat.” (Matthew 25:35)
The king welcomes his people and says they fed him, clothed him, and welcomed him. Surprised, they ask, “When did we do this?”. They had simply been caring for people in need, unaware that in doing so, they were serving the king himself.
As June 30 approaches, your tax-deductible gift will show Christ’s love and help families in the poorest places grow food so they can feed themselves into the future. Make your tax-deductible donation by visiting anglicanaid.org.au/thehungryfed or calling us on (02) 9284 1406.

TURNING HUNGER TO HOPE: Léonie
For Léonie, a mother of eleven in a small village in Burundi, feeding her family felt impossible. Her vegetable garden yielded little. She and her husband would sometimes hide just to escape the sound of their children crying or arguing over food.
But through the Diocese of Gitega’s Food Security Project in Burundi, Léonie and her husband learned new farming techniques. They focused on fast-growing, high-yield crops like cabbages, and their garden began to flourish. They were also able to sell surplus produce, earn a regular income, and provide nutritious meals for their children.
But something even deeper was growing. As Léonie met regularly with others in the program, they prayed together and read God’s word.
“This transformation has not only improved my family’s health and stability but it has also strengthened my faith,” Léonie said. “God is trustworthy.”

TURNING HUNGER TO HOPE: Monique

Monique, a 53-year-old widow and mother of six, also took part in the Gitega Food Security Project.
Today, with training, tools, and seedlings made possible through generous gifts from people like you, she supports her family by selling amaranth and pineapples. With food on the table and income coming in, her hope has been restored.
“I cannot thank God enough for how far I have come,” Monique shared. “We have gained our smiles back.”
