Help train 100 pastors

With your support, Rev Charles was trained for ministry in the Diocese of Gitega, Burundi

I have just arrived in Abuja, Nigeria to join the Gafcon meeting of over 400 bishops and leaders who are gathering to encourage the Anglican Church to stay true to the word of God and proclaim Christ faithfully.

We gather as war escalates in the Middle East, deeply conscious that our world desperately needs Jesus and his life-giving word! Every day it seems there are new difficulties – wars, divisions, and unrest. Our world and our relationships are marked by the devastating effects of sin.

You and I can read our Bible, can access faithful teaching each Sunday at church, and are taught by well-trained ministers who bring us biblically-based theological understanding. However, the reality is, Christians without faithful teaching have no answers in these incredibly troubling times.

But despite ongoing troubles, leaders of God’s church in the poorest places are being trained to teach God’s word and proclaim Christ faithfully.

Over the last five years, 2,000 pastors supported by Anglican Aid have been trained and ordained for ministry. Leaders are equipping God’s people to serve. Churches are being strengthened to proclaim the gospel. But many more pastors need training to lead well and grow God’s people to maturity.

The story in South Sudan

You may know that in South Sudan’s population of about 12 million there are 4.2 million Anglicans. That’s 100 times the number of Sydney Anglicans.

In this war-torn land, teaching regarding suffering and judgement has helped people, mostly through song, to throw off their old ways and old gods who have failed them, and to embrace Christ.

But in the 62 dioceses, 70% of Anglican church leaders are untrained. The Church struggles to grow God’s people in maturity as the need for trained leaders grows.

In South Sudan, Anglican Aid partners with Kajo-Keji Christian College and Bishop Gwynne School of Theology to equip church leaders to preach the message of Jesus and bring reconciliation to this damaged nation.

In 2026, our vision is to support an additional four rural and regional Bible colleges, equipping men and women to teach God’s word faithfully in the power of God’s Spirit.

In South Sudan, 70% of Anglican church leaders are untrained.

100 more pastors!

South Sudan is just one of 15 countries where Anglican Aid is training pastors for God’s church.

An investment of $2,500 each year will train a pastor over a three-year program.

Two-thirds of the cost for training 100 pastors has been met and I would love you to add your gift with those already giving. Every dollar you give will close the gap of the additional $250,000 needed to complete the training of 100 pastors.

Will you join in praying and giving to help train more pastors to be grounded in the scriptures and model servant leadership, so churches are strengthened and communities transformed for God’s glory.  Find out more.

Pray:

  • that God will provide for the training of 100 more pastors in the world’s poorest nations.
