Weighing honey from farmers to generate income for gospel workers

Blessing from Honeyworld weighs a farmer’s honey

“Poverty is a big problem in our part of the world, but the biggest problem is the need for the gospel,” says Tawanda Masango, founder of Honeyworld in Zimbabwe.

The project was initiated in partnership with Anglican Aid in 2016 with one of its aims to help generate income for village pastors and so support gospel ministry. With many rural church members struggling to provide for their families in the eastern highlands of Zimbabwe, churches find it difficult to adequately support their pastors. Honeyworld has been helping by giving pastors beekeeping training, equipment, and a reliable market with fair prices for the honey they produce.

Last year, Honeyworld was approached by a local pastor who was preparing to plant a church in a rural setting. Pastor Xlolani will use beekeeping to support his family as he starts up the church. But he also wants to help church members who struggle to make a living. Honeyworld has now run a training workshop for the pastor and 30 people from his church. Honeyworld is also working with a local Bible college to provide hives and training that can help towards meeting the college’s operating costs.

Employing ministry trainees

As well as giving beekeeping support for pastors, Honeyworld is providing employment for people in ministry in its honey processing and bottling facility. Former employee Tamuka Magonda, worked in Honeyworld’s workshop part-time for three years while he trained for ministry. He is now serving full-time in gospel work.

We praise God for the growth of Honeyworld and how it is supporting gospel ministry. Starting with 80 beekeepers, it is now working with 150 and produces 2,835 kilograms of honey per year. “Seeing the impact in the many farmers who are gaining sustainable income through beekeeping is truly God’s hand at work,” said Tawanda. “We’re so grateful for the partnership we have with Anglican Aid.”

Pray:

  • Pray that Honeyworld can find new markets for its honey, so gospel ministry is further supported.
