KENYA: A garden in the desert

“This is an area where farming is difficult because it’s desert and no one has ever succeeded,” said Rev Galgalo from the Anglican Church in Bubisa in Marsabit, northern Kenya.

In Bubisa, rainfall is scarce, and the soil doesn’t readily support crops. But in partnership with Anglican Aid, the Anglican Church’s Generate project supplied Bubisa church with a 10,000 litre water tank and guttering to provide water for irrigation and drinking.

Creating a vertical garden

It also helped the church’s Mothers’ Union group to start a small-scale irrigation garden. Instead of using local soil, they were provided with fertile soil and constructed vertical gardens in the church compound which they were able to irrigate with the tank supply. Their crops are now producing fruit and vegetables which they are selling and using to help support the church.

“We praise God for this initiative and once again we thank Anglican Aid for this support,” said Rev Galgalo. “You’ve really stood in the gap and empowered us. May God bless you for standing with us.”

Pray:

  • Praise God for providing water equipment and growing gardens through the Generate project in Marsabit.
